Mindset

One of the biggest areas of concern for this team has been their mindset. There hasn’t been an issue in terms of effort or quitting, which is the bare minimum.

They have responded to adversity in every game and fought back from huge deficits. However, playing with confidence and imposing their will, have been inconsistent at best, especially in the first five games.

The North Carolina game was the first where they looked confident and controlled the game for the majority of the contest. However, they spotted North Carolina 10 points in the first quarter before responding to the adversity.

I believe the coaching staff playing multiple guys at different positions hurt their continuity early in the season. It’s difficult to build trust that each guy will do their job when there are so many combinations at different positions.

The coaching staff seems to have an idea of who they can trust now, and that should play a large role in how they attack things in the second half of the season. The UMASS game will tell us a lot about how they handle success. If they start that game strong in all phases?

That means this team has the right mindset to make some noise.
