Touchdown After 10-0 Deficit

Well, it would be great to avoid getting into a 10-0 deficit before the first quarter was over, and that’s an area where the team needs to take that next step.

However, they did a good job limiting North Carolina to a field goal on their first possession. The second possession saw their drive continue on a fourth-down penalty(I still don’t think it was a penalty because Robert Cooper didn’t cross the neutral zone or touch anyone).

Nevertheless, it’s 10-0, and it looks like North Carolina could run away with the game early, especially since they were large betting favorites. FSU got a huge 41-yard kickoff return from Travis Jay, which is something we’ve rarely seen in years at FSU. That play was huge and set up the ‘Noles offense with great field position.

FSU went on a 12 play 59-yard touchdown drive to trim the lead to 10-7. On the surface, it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but FSU converted three huge third downs on the drive to keep things alive.

It was first and 20, second and 11, and third and eight to move the chains. FSU converted third and six and then scored the touchdown on third and goal. Those are downs the Noles have struggled to convert all season but found ways to get it done Saturday. I think that success helped their confidence grow and they only had one three-and-out drive the rest of the game.
