FSU football: Watch Jordan Travis 53-yard TD run against UNC
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football quarterback Jordan Travis gave the Noles life in the second quarter after going down 10-0 early. Travis took the Noles down the field and got the Noles back in the game with a five-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver Malik McClain.
It was McClain’s first career touchdown to cut the deficit to 10-7. However, the FSU defense forced a punt on UNC’s next possession, with FSU receiving the ball on the FSU 35. After two running plays, Jordan Travis shocked the UNC crowd on a 53-yard scamper to give the Noles a 14-10 lead with 8:36 remaining in the second quarter.
The play happened on a read-option with Jordan Travis keeping the ball and breaking a couple of tackles near the line of scrimmage. UNC had their defense up because they didn’t respect FSU’s passing game, and there was no one close to catching him as he crossed the goal-line.
The play seemed to ignite the FSU team as Jarrian Jones intercepted a Sam Howell pass in the end zone to give the Noles the ball back with 4:52 remaining in the second quarter.
The FSU offense took advantage of the turnover and used their potent running game behind Jashaun Corbin and Jordan Travis to march down the field. Jordan Travis hit Ontaria Wilson on a 32-yard touchdown to give the Noles a 21-10 lead with 53 seconds remaining.
Jordan Travis finished the half 6 of 8 for 60 yards, and two touchdown passes. He had 87 rushing yards on seven carries and the rushing touchdown at halftime.
The Noles had a lead at halftime last year and held on to upset the Tarheels. Can they do the unthinkable and win their second consecutive game. We’ll find out in about 30 minutes in what could be a huge win for the Noles.
