FSU football: 4 storylines to follow for the remainder of the season
By Cole Maines
As FSU Football approaches its sixth game week and thus reaches the midway point of the 2021 campaign, ChopChat looks at storylines that may develop.
This upcoming week will be the halfway point for this 2021 season, and a good jumping-off point would be to summarize what has happened so far. It would be the understatement of the century to say that this year has been disappointing for the FSU Football team.
After a strong start in a close loss to the then No. 10, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Seminoles stumbled and flat out face-planted against their next three opponents. A game against lesser competition in Jacksonville State, a game they should have won and needed to win, is one the coaching staff would like to have back.
It was not too long after the first disappointing result against JSU and the collapse against Wake Forrest that much of the fanbase wanted someone’s head on a stake. We heard calls for Mike Norvell, offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham, and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller.
The fans wanted retribution. That is until (mostly) cooler heads prevailed, and the team’s appetite for a win was satiated against Syracuse. Quarterback controversy, attrition, injuries, and overall frustration surrounded the FSU football for much of September.
Much of that seemed to resolve itself after last Saturday’s win. However, there are unresolved issues that will be ever present as the rest of the season unfolds.
With the polarity of this team, one week it can compensate and scheme around deficiencies to the tune of 30+ points, and another week they can barely breach the 20 point mark and look inept as a program. What will unfold in these subsequent weeks?
More simply put, what’s next?
