FSU Football: Top 5 most important offensive players for 2021
By Cole Maines
Camren McDonald and Jordan Wilson
These players start the list because coach Mike Norvell uses the position in a lot of ways. I want to start this section off with the more obscure name here in Jordan Wilson.
Unfortunately, his Achilles injury lead to him missing all of last season and much of the spring. His recent return has given the offense much optimism as he can serve as a blocker along the line, freeing up other assets to use their flexibility to their benefit.
Wilson’s receiving ability isn’t anything to sneeze at either, and he could find himself being the main target on play-action throws and down in the red zone as he brings size and experience. Again, his leadership and the ability for him to allow Camren McDonald, in particular, to flex out as an offensive weapon.
The latter set himself a goal before the start of spring. In a tweet, McDonald said that he would follow in Nick O’Leary’s footsteps and be the best tight end in college football. I am of the impression that he has an outside shot of that goal.
He bulked up significantly to be able to help to block. He is also one of the better pass catchers on the team and had rather sure hands all last season. This, combined with the increase expected in the passing game, should bode well for the potential of Mcdonald’s contributions.
McDonald was one of only three pass catchers who totaled over 20 catches and 250+ yards. Seeing as that can only increase, I feel bold in this prediction.
The last person I feel like I have to mention here is Jackson West. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how much he wowed peers and coaches alike and how he looks poised to contribute in a thin tight end room.
