FSU football: Lack of talent or development keeping Noles from 8 wins?
By Kelvin Hunt
Other Teams
That leaves the following teams on the FSU football schedule in 2021. FSU is more talented than the two FCS teams listed, and the average recruiting ranking for the other teams is in parenthesis:
- Jacksonville State (FCS)
- Wake Forest (No. 62)
- Louisville (No. 45)
- Syracuse (No. 55)
- UMASS (FCS)
- NC State (No. 34)
- Boston College (No. 58)
I understand the recruiting rankings are not an exact science, so it’s not smart to look solely at the raw numbers. A team could not have a high recruiting average but may recruit better in the trenches than at the skill positions.
A team may hit on a solid quarterback, and the majority of the team is middle-of-the-road three-star players(North Carolina #cough).
Some teams may have had more success in the transfer portal than others, which isn’t used in the final rankings. Some players in these classes are no longer with the program. FSU is a prime example, with 9 of 13 blue-chip players from their 2018 class no longer on the roster.
