More Talented Teams

I pointed out a couple of weeks ago FSU football has never finished lower than fourth in the ACC conference recruiting rankings.

I know recruiting rankings are not an exact science, especially when transfers are not used in the final rankings.

However, looking at the last four recruiting cycles, one of the biggest issues facing FSU football is two transition classes(2018, 2020).

Willie Taggart replaces Jmbo Fisher and Mike Norvell replacing Willie Taggart, not to mention 2021 being affected by the pandemic.

I think it’s safe to assume the following schools on the 2021 schedule have more talent overall than FSU on their roster going into the 2021 season.

Here are the averages of the last four recruiting cycles for these schools

  • Clemson (No. 6)
  • Florida (No. 11)
  • Notre Dame (No. 13)
  • Miami (No. 15)

The average of the last four recruiting cycles for FSU football is No. 18, and for those wondering, North Carolina checks in at No. 19 over the same time.

So that tells us theoretically, FSU football has more talent than the rest of the teams on the schedule. The biggest difference between FSU and North Carolina is probably quarterback play.
