FSU football: Transfer target Cain Madden commits to Notre Dame
By Kelvin Hunt
I wrote two weeks ago the probability of FSU football offensive line transfer target Cain Madden choosing the Noles was 50/50.
That prediction was about right, even though Madden choose Notre Dame Friday afternoon. This factor was one of the biggest no matter who FSU was going up against:
"However, the first thing that sticks out to me is Madden is originally from Minford, Ohio. That is extreme south Ohio, so maybe that is somewhat favorable as most players from the midwest tend to stay in that area instead of venturing down to Florida."
It’s a rarity to see mid-west big men venture down south unless it’s to a program that’s competing for national titles.
FSU football isn’t in the position yet, not to mention the reputation of the offensive line hasn’t been great over the past half-decade. The FSU coaching staff got him on campus for nearly three days, which says a lot about their efforts in addressing a big position of need.
It depends on where you are in life. Sometimes your best effort is good enough to get the girl or guy, and sometimes it’s not. It all depends on the season and what that person is looking for at the time.
At this time, Madden chooses to go with a school that’s done a better job of getting players to the next level at his position. It’s also much closer to where he’s from originally.
Parting Thoughts
I wouldn’t take anything negative from the situation. The only thing that sucks is the Noles will have to face Notre Dame in week one of the 2021 season. It’s almost a what could have been situation, but I take solace in the staff having a plan and executing it.
It just wasn’t enough to get the job done, and that’s something I can live with because the product will not always be what it’s been the past few years. With a better product, that plan and execution likely works.
The coaching staff still has one scholarship left, so here’s hoping they can find another offensive lineman or defensive end that will help improve the program.
