The Work

The FSU coaching staff targeted McKenzie Milton for several reasons, and his experience was near the top of the list. The coaching staff knew that facet would play a large role in how much he could contribute in 2021.

The experience he brought to the table would make it easier for him to learn a new offense. Think about it, he only had 15 practices in the spring and began to close the gap Jordan Travis had built in the early part of camp.

In totality, it was roughly three months and 15 practices. Those practices are experiences Milton can lean on until the season opener against Notre Dame. He can watch the film, understand what he did well and what he needs to improve on.

If he covered that much ground in three months? How much more ground could he cover in the following five months?

I wrote about it after the spring game, but confidence plays a big part in an athlete’s success. The success Milton had in the spring game likely gave him a spark going into the off-season. He proved he can compete physically, so now it’s all about the mental aspect of getting comfortable in the offense.
