The FSU football coaching staff decided to use the transfer portal to make the turnaround in Tallahassee faster over the past year.

The Noles needed experience at some key positions like the defensive end and on the offensive line. They also needed help in the secondary, and those are some areas the coaching staff brought in players who should be able to contribute immediately.

The thought is these players are ready to compete physically and have enough experience to help the Noles compete on the field in 2021.

The other option would have been depending on freshmen, who are not physically ready to play and lack the experience needed to play at a high level.

According to the updated rankings at 247Sports, the Noles have brought in six players ranked among the top 100:

  • McKenzie Milton(No. 12)
  • Jermaine Johnson (No. 32)
  • Jammie Robinson (No. 36)
  • Brandon Moore (No. 40)
  • Andrew Parchment (No. 59)
  • DJ Williams (No. 64)

They have other transfers that didn’t make the top 100 list who could play valuable snaps for the Noles and could add another player if Marshall’s Cain Madden commits to the Noles.

The addition of McKenzie Milton helps gives the Noles leadership and experience at the quarterback position. Jermaine Johnson should help provide a pass rush immediately, and Robinson and Moore will see snaps in the secondary.

Andrew Parchment will be the most productive and experienced wide receiver on the roster when he puts on the garnet and gold this summer. The offense will depend on him a lot since there’s not a lot of depth and experience.

DJ Williams should help provide depth at running back and value on third downs. Kier Thomas and Dillan Gibbons should provide quality snaps as well, especially Gibbons on the offensive line.

These transfer portal players should help provide a better product on the field, which should help high school recruiting as it’ll give the coaching staff something to sell on the recruiting trails.

The recruiting in the transfer portal has been a solid job by a coaching staff who many doubted knew how to recruit.
