FSU baseball: Why Notre Dame series is critical for the Noles
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU baseball (23-16, 15-12 ACC) will take on ACC Atlantic leader Notre Dame (24-8, 21-8 ACC) in a three-game series this weekend.
The Noles won their last two ACC conference series and have won seven of their last 10 games.
FSU projects to make the Field of 64 in the latest projections by D1Baseball.com, appearing as the No. 2 seed in the Gainesville regional.
Rival Florida is the No. 1 seed, along with Florida A&M and South Alabama.
Why is the Notre Dame series so critical for FSU Baseball?
FSU has shown they are capable of beating good teams this season. However, they’ve lost some games they had no business losing as well.
The Notre Dame series allows them to make a statement against the top team in the conference. A series win or sweep would go a long way into putting the Noles into a more favorable bracket in the Field of 64.
That’s, of course, provided they take care of business the rest of the season against Clemson and NC State. The Notre Dame series is on the road, and the Noles have an (8-5) record away from Howser.
Success against Notre Dame would provide some much-needed confidence for the team to close out the season strong. The D1Baseball projection isn’t set in stone, and nobody is running from Florida Gators.
After all, the Noles beat them earlier in the season, and the second game was a one-run loss in extra innings. However, the Noles need to put themselves in the best position possible when it comes to the Field of 64.
They can do that with wins against quality teams and Notre Dame projects as the No. 5 national seed right now. Clemson and NC State project to be in the Field of 64 as well.
The Notre Dame series could have a lot of influence over those two series. FSU baseball will travel to Notre Dame Friday with the first pitch at 6 p.m. ET on the ACC Network.
