FSU football got a big-time 2022 commitment from blue-chip prostyle quarterback AJ Duffy Wednesday evening.

The news sort of came as a surprise as AJ Duffy visited Michigan State over the weekend. Duffy had previously visited the Noles for the spring game earlier this month.

Duffy was down to a final three of FSU, Michigan State, and Arizona State. It was the Noles and his relationship with FSU offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham that got the job done.

Interestingly, Duffy announced via his Twitter account on Kenny Dillingham’s birthday:

AJ Duffy is the No. 76 ranked player nationally, No. 6 prostyle QB, and No. 10 player in Florida. Duffy originally hails from the west coast but transferred to play his final season at IMG Academy his senior year.

You’ll recall IMG Academy is where 2021 wide receiver signee Malik McClain finished his high school career.

Duffy checks in at 6’2″ and 203 pounds. Duffy holds 36 college offers from FSU, Michigan State, Arizona State, Auburn, Arkansas, Louisville, LSU, Nebraska, Miami, NC State, Penn State, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Ole Miss, Stanford, USC, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and other schools.

Quick Thoughts

Mike Norvell and Kenny Dillingham have proven they can find, evaluate, and sign quality quarterbacks. Duffy was the top QB target on their board, and it’ll be interesting to see how this affects the other blue-chip commitment Nicco Marchiol.

Marchiol was on campus during the spring game and was hanging out with Duffy during his visit. Not to mention, Marchiol has been one of the most vocal FSU recruits in recent memory.

He’s flown from his home state of Arizona to Tallahassee a couple of times already and has been working with five-star commit Travis Hunter to bring in the best players possible for the 2022 recruiting cycle.

I’m also interested to see how vocal Duffy will be on the recruiting trail. Be sure to check back tomorrow morning as I discuss the impact of the Duffy commitment.
