FSU football: 3 things learned about McKenzie Milton in spring camp
By Kelvin Hunt
McKenzie Milton Is Physically Ready To Play
There were never any questions about the arm of Milton. It’s not a cannon, but it’s adequate and his quick release allows him to get away with certain things.
He has a knack for putting enough air under throws to allow receivers to catch passes in stride.
We saw that trait in the spring game with passes to Malik McClain and Joshua Burrell. He can make the back shoulder throw as well. However, the questions always centered around the leg injury, and if he’d recover the ability to use his legs effectively against defenses.
This video is one play from the spring game, and he looks just fine to me. He drops back, steps up in the pocket, and takes off for a 10-15 yard scamper. The straight-line speed looked fine, and he didn’t look clumsy or slow as he navigated the running lane with the offensive line getting pushed towards him.
Of course, we won’t know how he’ll react once he gets hit for the first time. Will his body be able to hold up? Anything can happen, but it’s a chance every quarterback takes when the ball is hiked to them whether they’ve had a catastrosphic injury or not.
