FSU football: 3 things learned about McKenzie Milton in spring camp
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has had a quarterback issue since Jameis Winston declared for the NFL Draft after the 2014 season.
A combination of bad luck, injuries, poor evaluations, and failure to sign quarterbacks has been a major reason the Noles have fallen off a cliff in the last few years.
Yes, the offensive line has been bad, but good quarterback play would have made that unit a less glaring weakness.
Mike Norvell knew the quarterback position needed talent and depth when he arrived in December 2019. He signed two high school quarterbacks and had Luke Atlmyer committed for months before de-committing to stay in-state with Ole Miss.
That decision created a dilemma. Mike Norvell could have attempted to sign another project out of high school or go to the transfer portal. Behold, McKenzie Milton appeared as the 2020 season came to an end and ultimately signed with the Noles.
Milton’s a proven quarterback with a great leadership pedigree and tons of experience. It’s a match made in heaven for a program that needs those exact things.
The only problem was Milton hadn’t played since an injury nearly cost him his leg in late 2018. The questions began to swirl even though there was footage of him leading UCF’s scout this past season.
The critics were out again in full force when FSU football released a micro-second of Milton running during the Tour of Duty workouts. Milton completed the winter workouts and spring camp without any physical issues.
Here are three things we learned about McKenzie Milton in spring camp.
