FSU baseball: Noles look for season sweep of Florida Gators
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU baseball (16-12, 11-10 ACC) suffered a tough series loss against No. 7 Louisville in their last outing.
The Noles could have swept the series, but umpire interference changed the momentum in the first and third games and helped Louisville take two of three games.
FSU baseball will look to put that behind them as they travel to take on the rival Florida Gators Tuesday night. FSU surprised many people by destroying the Gators 10-2 earlier in the season.
Both teams will send the same starting pitchers as the last matchup. Carson Montgomery will look to duplicate his effort from the last time where he went 4.2 innings, striking out nine and allowing two earned runs.
The main thing for Montgomery is getting ahead in the count, avoiding walks, and not wasting so many pitches. He hasn’t gone past 4.2 innings pitched in an outing all season.
Florida will send Garrett Milchen against the Noles. Milchen got shelled for eight hits and seven earned runs in 1.2 innings against FSU earlier this season.
Keys To Victory
FSU will need to start fast as they did the last time they took on the Gators. Florida is a strong team playing at home (19-5), and they don’t need to allow Milchen to gain confidence as the game progresses.
I would love to see Carson Montgomery show progression and get through five innings. The FSU offense has been decent of late, especially the top of the lineup. They did all the damage against Milchen in the last outing, particularly Logan Lacey, Robby Martin, and Matheu Nelson.
Those three batters went 8-15 with nine RBI’s. All three are swinging the bat well, particularly Nelson and Lacey against Louisville over the weekend.
If they can get off to another fast start, and Montgomery can avoid walks and deep counts early? I like the chances of FSU sweeping Florida with a win Tuesday night.
