FSU baseball (12-8, 8-7 ACC) looks to get back in the winners’ column in a mid-week game against Mercer (13-10).

The Noles lost their first ACC Conference series in weeks against Wake Forest last week. FSU came back to win the series opener before dropping the last two games in two high-scoring games.

Mercer comes into the contest off a loss against Wofford, but the Bears won eight consecutive games before that loss.

Mercer batters are hitting .283 with an on-base percentage of .387, and have slugged 31 home runs, two triples, and 47 doubles.

Mercer pitchers will enter the contest with a 5.73 ERA, with opposing teams batting .275, with 210 strikeouts and 91 walks in 201 innings.

Defensively, Mercer has 22 errors in 23 games for a fielding percentage of .974.

FSU’s strength had been its pitching and hitting, but the pitching got knocked around by Wake Forest the last two games. FSU pitchers enter the contest with a 3.28 ERA, with opposing teams batting .206, with 249 strikeouts and 84 walks in 184 innings.

FSU batters are hitting .250 with an on-base percentage of .368, and have 30 home runs, zero triples, and 29 doubles.

Defensively, FSU has 22 errors in 20 games for a fielding percentage of .971.

How’s It Going To Go

The starting pitcher for FSU baseball isn’t clear since mid-week starter Carson Montgomery pitched on Sunday against Wake Forest. Jack Anderson could be an option if Montgomery isn’t available.

Both pitchers have a nasty arsenal to baffle hitters, with Montgomery needing to work on not going into so many deep counts with batters and increasing his pitch count.

Mercer pitchers are not dominant and give up runs, as evident by their ERA. However, Mercer batters can swing it and look to make a name off FSU, as do most opponents.

If the Nole pitchers get ahead in the counts, Mercer batters will have a tough time breaking through. Here’s to hoping the FSU offense that showed up in the last two games against Wake Forest, shows up against Mercer. The first pitch will take place at 6 p.m.
