FSU football: Special team questions heading into spring camp

The Noles haven’t had a good season of field goal kicking since 2017 when Ricky Aguayo made 18 of 21 (85.7 percent).
The only problem was he dropped off drastically in 2019, making 7 of 14 field goals, and finished his career on a disappointing note.
That season saw freshman Ryan Fitzgerald redshirt with the opportunity to practice and learn from Aguayo.
The only problem was it was like the only thing he learned was how to keep missing field goals. I hate to sound harsh, but Fitzgerald only made 4 of 7 on the season, with former walk-on Parker Grothaus getting snaps and making 4 of 7 as well.
There wasn’t much to write home about with these two, and they’ll battle it out in spring camp for the starting job.
Field goal kicking is all about confidence and consistency, and neither had either of those two in 2020. Here’s to hoping one of them can figure it out and bring honor back to having the best field goal kicker in the nation.
