Offensive Line

There are a lot of narratives and debates about the offensive line on social media. Some fans believe the unit improved last season, and others believe that improvement was a by-product of Jordan Travis’s ability to escape pressure with his legs.

I believe the truth is somewhere in the middle, but there’s no question the run blocking improved.

When it comes to pass blocking, I believe there was more improvement than folks realize. James Blackman had enough time to throw against Georgia Tech in the season opener, and Miami didn’t start dominating the line of scrimmage until the score was lopsided and they knew FSU had to pass.

This unit should be better in 2021. Devontay Love-Tayor returns after an injury ended his season last year. Darius Washington, Maurice Smith, Dontae Lucas, Baveon Johnson, Brady Scott, Robert Scott Jr., and Thomas Schrader all played minutes last season.

Could Jalen Goss finally find some snaps after getting up to 284 pounds? FSU coaches have said they’d like to have a solid eight players to rotate in-and-out, and it looks like they could have a solid number of dependable players at this spot.
