FSU basketball: 3 takeaways from ‘Noles blowout win over Boston College
By Kelvin Hunt
No. 11 FSU basketball (15-4, 11-3) took care of business on senior night against Boston College (4-14, 2-10 ACC), with senior guard M.J. Walker leading the Noles with 18 points.
He was on fire, making 6 of 9 from beyond-the-arc, with deuces wild on rebounds, assists, and blocks.
The game was never in question, with FSU obliterating Boston College 93-64 and covering the -19.5 point spread.
It was the type of performance fans wanted to see after performing so poorly in the second half against North Carolina.
The win guarantees at least a share of the ACC Regular Season Title, and a win against Notre Dame or another Virginia loss would clinch it for the second consecutive year.
Three Takeaways
- FSU responded well after a loss
- Shot it well offensively
- Turned Boston College over 23 times
If you’re an avid reader, you know I’ve written many times about FSU’s propensity to play to their level of competition. I was nearly positive they’d defeat Boston College but wasn’t sure they’d cover the huge betting spread. I mean, I know Boston College was terrible, but they beat them the way you’d want a team trying to win a National Championship should.
FSU shot 55.6 percent overall, 48 percent from three-point range, and made 10 of 13 free throws. Not to mention, this is with the starters playing fewer minutes than usual because of the blowout and Leonard Hamilton starting seniors on Senior Night.
Boston College was on fire from three-point land early, and FSU needed to do a better job of closing out on the shooters. FSU forced 23 turnovers and held Boston College to 36.7 percent shooting overall.
It was great to see the Seniors got out with a win inside the Tucker Center and M.J. Walker’s farewell was memorable. FSU basketball will return to action Saturday in the regular-season finale at Notre Dame. The game will air on ESPN2 with a noon tipoff.
