FSU basketball is in a position to repeat as ACC Regular Season Conference champions for the first time in history.

The Noles are only second to Virginia in overall wins and conference wins since this 2018-19 season and have sent several players to the NBA.

Hamilton enjoyed success in the NCAA Tournament, making the second-round, Elite 8, and Sweet 16 since the 2016-17 seasons.

The Noles were in a position to be an NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed last season if they would have won the ACC Tournament.

Of course, the tournament never happened due to COVID-19, and all of the what-if questions linger.

However, the question of Leonard Hamilton’s future with FSU basketball got an answer with the Tallahassee Democrat reporting a five-year extension Monday morning. There were no questions regarding his future, but this gives a timeline for the 72-year old coach.

The extension has many incentives built-in, but the program is at a level Hamilton will cash frequently.

Hamilton has his program reloading now, and the new blood, a name the program adopted last year, looks poised to compete with the traditional powers in the ACC for years to come.

FSU basketball will have the No. 2 overall recruiting class for the 2021 cycle and looks to be in a great position with several top players in the 2022 class.

How far will the Noles go in 2021? They have the potential to be one of the best teams in the nation, but a lack of consistency to play at a high level regardless of the opponent continues to rear its ugly head throughout the season.

The loss at North Carolina Saturday afternoon was a prime example, but I suppose that comes with losing so much experience from last year’s team. However, the Noles have two games remaining and will be the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament with wins in both games. Congrats to Leonard Hamilton because this extension is deserving.
