FSU football: 3 players from 2020 class who shined as freshmen
By Kelvin Hunt
Lawrence Toafili is the player from the recruiting class that all fans wish they could have seen more of in 2020.
FSU’s Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year, Toafili, appeared in eight games with two starts, but the bulk of his action came in only five games.
He finished the season with 356 rushing yards on 37 carries with two touchdowns. Toafili contributed as a receiver as well, totaling 120 yards on 12 receptions.
His 9.65 yards per carry led the team and all true freshmen and was second in the nation overall. Toafili has a sleight frame at 6’0″ and 180 pounds but runs bigger than his size with the ability to burst through the hole into the second level.
While he doesn’t have elite top-end speed, he has an incredible ability to put his foot in the ground and make defenders miss like Peter Warrick in the open field.
Toafili has the potential to be a star, provided he can add about 15 pounds of muscle mass and retain his speed and explosiveness.
He’s a player that needs to have at least 10-15 touches(rushing and receiving) per game in 2021.
