FSU football is working to cap off its 2021 recruiting class with at least one more addition and plenty of preferred walk-ons after meeting most of their needs.

The journey to bringing in a top 2022 recruiting class is well underway, with 285 offers and five commitments from some talented players.

I believe 2022 recruiting could be the class that helps Mike Norvell gets the FSU football program back to where it belongs.

However, it’s the 2023 class that could give them an edge against their rivals. The key to it will be relationships coupled with progress on the field.

I think we’re all expecting FSU to be better over the next couple of years. So how do relationships come into play?

I thought you’d never ask. FSU football coaches have done an outstanding job of getting ahead of the curve with evaluations and offers. Here’s where they stand compared to their rivals:

2023 recruiting

FSU: 111 offers (41 in Florida and 21 in Georgia)

Florida: 55 (25 in Florida and 11 in Georgia)

Miami: 71 offers (46 in Florida and 8 in Georgia)

The first thing noticeable thing is the number of offers already has out there compared to their rivals. That’s doubled up Florida and way more than Miami. I wrote about how FSU was getting back to its roots a few weeks ago, targeting Florida and Georgia.

It’s good to see that trend continuing, and geographically it makes sense with Tallahassee being closer to Georgia than Gainesville or Miami. It’s also why you see Miami concentrating so much on in-state players.

Let’s say all three teams are near the same record-wise after the 2021 season. FSU’s going to have had longer relationships with several players compared to Florida and Miami. If the FSU coaches play their hand well, it’ll be a prime opportunity to make up ground on both rivals.

All they have to do is show progress on the field in 2021 and hopefully beat one or both rivals.
