FSU Basketball: Impact of postponed games due to COVID-19
When it comes tournament time, bracket seeding is everything
March Madness. Even the most inexperienced or non-loving sports person tunes into it. The thrills. The excitement. The underdogs. Every year my mom fills out a bracket without watching a lick of college basketball during the season. It’s just one of those events that bring people together.
For the past few years, FSU has surprised national pundits and made headlines about what they have been able to do in both the ACC tournament and NCAA tournament. If it wasn’t for COVID-19 this past season, many had Florida State making it at least to the Final Four.
The possibility of not playing a full schedule like most teams, and even worse, games against teams that should be a challenge that makes your resume stand out not getting played can have serious consequences when it comes time for seeding for the tournament.
Much to the average fan’s knowledge, bracket or tournament style playoffs are so that the higher seed will play a lower. A team not playing a full schedule and missing chances to improve their tournament seeding could be a huge shot to this FSU basketball team.
The reasoning is the higher the seed, usually, they are the better team in each match-up. For this particular FSU basketball team, they will need all the help they can get, as they are not the dominant force like we saw out of last year’s squad.
Not only is the seeding important, but fans know the importance of the match-ups in each region. The better the matchup, the better a team’s chances of advancing to the next round. This is why seeding and region placement becomes so important to this year’s men’s basketball team.
