FSU football: 3 biggest needs in 2022 recruiting class
By Kelvin Hunt
Linebacker/Defensive End
Before the last recruiting cycle, FSU hadn’t signed a legitimate pass rusher since Brian Burns left after the 2018 season and selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Those players will likely need a year or two to develop before they contribute.
Luckily, FSU has already begun to address this position with two quality 2022 commits, and they are in a good position for a couple of other quality players.
Of these positions, the linebacker needs addressing the most. FSU didn’t sign a true linebacker in the 2021 recruiting cycle, with both signees more of a safety/linebacker hybrid.
That skill set is a need in today’s game with coverage responsibilities, but FSU needs more guys hungry to come in and take a spot.
They have some talent signed in the Willie Taggart era, but freshman Stephen Dix Jr. leapfrogged them on the depth chart last season.
He was hit or miss last year, as expected, but FSU needs difference-makers at this spot. It’s an area that’s been a weakness for the Noles since the 2017 season. FSU is high on a couple of blue-chip targets, so we’ll see how that shakes out.
