FSU football: Is 2021 recruiting class better than Fisher’s 2010 class?
By Kelvin Hunt
2021 Recruiting Class
The 2021 recruiting class consists of 17 high school players and eight players from the transfer portal.
Right now, seven of the 17 high school players are considered blue-chip players (41.1 percent), which is the same ratio as the 2010 class(not counting transfers for 2021).
If we look at the eight transfers for 2021, three of them were/are considered blue-chip players, which is still a 41.6 percent blue-chip ratio overall.
How many of these 2021 players are NFL Draft material? I’d say five of the high school players and about three of the transfers if I had to take a stab at it right now. Of course, things can change with injuries and or players getting developed or lack thereof.
The biggest difference between the two classes is the number of players that can play on day one for each coach.
Mike Norvell is taking a hit perception wise because he doesn’t have a top 10 class (on paper), but he’s taking players from the transfer portal that are plug and play guys.
Almost all of the players from the transfer portal have proven ability in college and should bode well for FSU’s future while giving younger players time to develop without being thrust into action before they are ready.
If we had to re-rank the 2010 recruiting class, would you still consider it the No. 8 in the nation? I’d doubt it.
If we could rank the 2021 recruiting class and count the transfers to that ranking, would it rank higher than No. 22?
I believe that to be the case. There may not be the difference-makers (on paper) like Lamarcus Joyner, Telvin Smith, Bjorn Werner, and Christian Jones. However, I think more of the 2021 signees could be solid contributors overall than what we saw from the 2010 class.
