FSU football: 2022 blue-chip QB Nicco Marchiol commits to Noles
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football coaches are putting in work for the 2022 recruiting cycle, in what could be a class full of difference-makers if all things fall into place.
The quarterback position is arguably the most important position in each recruiting cycle and the Noles have gone multiple years without signing quality prospects and developing them.
One thing Mike Norvell and his staff have done is show they can evaluate and attract QB talent to Tallahassee.
Four-star Nicco Marchiol is the next QB talent that’s verbally committed to the Noles. He announced the decision via his Instagram account while on campus in front of the fountain!
Marchiol announced a top four list of FSU, Florida, Arizona State and Rutgers earlier this month and visited by FSU and Florida last week. He posted some pictures from his time in Tallahassee and said it was a great visit followed by a tweet stating he would be making an announcement later in the week. He’s been an FSU lean for some time due to his long-standing relationship with FSU offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham and head coach Mike Norvell.
Marchiol checks in at 6’2″ and 216 pounds and hails from Chandler, Arizona. Marchiol is considered the No. 220 player nationally, No. 9 pro-style QB, and No. 2 player in Arizona.
He checks in with 26 offers from FSU, Florida, Arizona State, Rutgers, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Penn State, TCU, USC, Washington State, and some smaller schools.
Marchiol is a pro-style quarterback, but he can move some with his legs too. Marchiol doesn’t have a cannon, but he’s accurate with his passes, as he averaged a 65 percent completion rate over the past three seasons.
He had his highest pass completion percentage at 69.2 percent last season. His commitment sets up nicely with how the roster looks at the moment. FSU finally has enough depth that will allow Marchiol to redshirt and compete for the job after getting time to get comfortable in the offense.
The 2022 FSU recruiting class is now at five commitments and all five will be blue-chip talent once all of the rankings are updated. That’s about a good of a start as one could ask for right now.
