FSU fans knew Cam Akers was going to shine in the NFL.

I think I’m still a little salty we never got to see the true potential of Cam Akers in an FSU football uniform.

The former top-10 recruit ran behind horrendous offensive lines coupled with poor quarterback play all three years, yet still managed to finish as the No. 6 all-time rusher in three seasons.

His production on terrible teams helped him become the second-round pick of the LA Rams in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Ironically, that’s the same round Dalvin Cook was selected, and now he’s arguably the best running back in the NFL.

Cam Akers got off to a relatively slow start in his rookie season. He only totaled double-digit carries twice in the first seven games with a game-high of 61 yards during that stretch. However, something has clicked for Akers in the last three games, which culminated in a breakout performance Thursday night in a 24-3 win over the New England Patriots.

It was his first career 100-yard rushing game. Akers finished with 29 carries for 171 yards and two receptions for 23 yards.

He’s carried the ball 59 times in the last three games for 327 yards and two rushing touchdowns. The Rams have won back-to-back games after losing a close contest against San Francisco a couple of weeks ago.

Here’s a look at a couple of his runs in case you missed the game Thursday night:

Akers has shown exceptional vision in the last few games, as evident in the videos. The jump cuts and the ability to hit the hole and get to the second level is what great running backs do.

Akers has 528 rushing yards through 10 games, with three regular-season games remaining on the schedule. I think Akers would have had a decent shot of rushing for 1,000 yards as a rookie if the schedule has a full slate of games.

Here’s to hoping he finishes the season on his current tear and establishes himself as the starter for the 2021 season.
