FSU football can’t allow Dabo Swinney to control the narrative.

FSU football was in a lose-lose situation with the Clemson game over the weekend. However, they did the right thing in canceling the game.

The health of the players on the team is more important than the perception the program was scared to play a team they were huge underdogs against. I wrote about the ramifications of if they played the game and how that could affect the next two games on the schedule.

I never in my wildest dreams thought Dabo Swinney would go on record and say what he said to ESPN Sunday. If case you missed it:

"“This game was not canceled because of COVID,” Swinney said. “COVID was just an excuse to cancel the game. I have no doubt their players wanted to play and would have played. And same with the coaches. To me, the Florida State administration forfeited the game.” “Trevor practiced all week except for Thursday,” Swinney said, “and BC didn’t have any problem coming down here to play.”"

Did any other Clemson players test positive before the game Dabo? If not, stop talking.

"“So now we’re changing the rules? You either trust the test or you don’t,” Swinney said. “If the test is negative, we’re going to tell guys they can’t play anyway? That’s why we test. If a guy has an ear ache or a runny nose and tests negative all week, and we’re going to say we won’t take you? You either trust the test or you don’t and the rules are what they are. There’s been plenty of games played this year where guys were not positive one week and positive the next week. This is a virus. We all know what we’re dealing with. The bottom line is the rules were put in play for everyone and we more than met the standard.”"

Dabo Swinney has proven time and time again he’s tone-deaf and not the sharpest knife in the drawer. The reason the game was postponed was that they TRUSTED the test. The player tested positive and had been around the entire team practicing the WHOLE week. It’s not that hard to understand. They did not meet the protocol or the standard of isolating if symptoms are present. Swinney’s decision to be irresponsible is why the game was postponed.
