FSU basketball has been in an unfamiliar spot in the recruiting rankings. A de-commitment shows fans just how unfamiliar it is.

FSU basketball has the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation going into Thursday afternoon. The Noles had five commits, including five-star shooting guard Bryce McGowens.

It has been reported McGowens has de-committed from the Noles, but the Noles remain with the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation.

That’s how great Leonard Hamilton’s 2021 recruiting class is for those that haven’t been following along.

The news broke on Twitter late Thursday morning:

McGowens is considered the No. 25 player overall, No. 4 shooting guard, and No. 1 player in South Carolina. He initially committed to Leonard Hamilton on February 8, 2020, and was the first commit in the class.

Hamilton has since added five-star small forward Matthew Cleveland, four-star center John Butler, along with three-star center Naheem McLeod.  The last player to join the class is No. 24 ranked player overall, five-star Jalen Warley. Warley is a combo guard, ranked as the No. 3 shooting guard, and the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania.

It has been incredible to see Leonard Hamilton put this recruiting class together, and more amazing to lose a player the caliber of McGowens and still maintain the No. 1 overall ranking.

McGowens holds 24 offers from the likes of FSU, Florida, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Xavier, and some other smaller schools.

I’d imagine some blue-blood schools have approached him with a potential offer that hasn’t been listed yet as he’s already visited FSU basketball before.

McGowens maintaining FSU is still in the mix is good, as basketball players seemingly re-commit more often in these situations than football players.

I guess we’ll have to play the waiting game and see what happens next, or could this make room for four-star wide receiver Keon Coleman, who de-committed from Kansas recently?
