Alex Mastromanno

I wrote about my concerns regarding the youth on special teams a few weeks ago. The Georgia Tech game was the first time Alex Mastromanno had officially played organized football.

The Australian product had rave reviews from the coaching staff and some impressive footage of him booming punts in practice sessions.

However, doing it in practice and when people are charging at you for the first time are two different things.

Mastromanno only punted three times, but that phase of special teams look much-improved compared to the past few years.

He averaged 48.3 yards per punt, with a long of 50 yards, and also had one that dropped inside the 15-yard line but rolled into the end zone before the coverage team could down it.

He’s using a rugby punting style and got about four seconds of hang time on the featured punt. If he can stay in that ballpark with maybe a tad more hangtime, the Noles will have a serious upgrade in that department.
