James Blackman Could Be Poised To Have A Breakout Year

We went into camp knowing James Blackman would likely be the starting quarterback coming out of camp. What we didn’t know was how would Mike Norvell and staff think of Blackman as a player.

Mike Norvell has been complimentary of James Blackman. I think a lot of FSU football fans thought it was coachspeak, but Norvell has been a straight shooter and spoken candidly about how players were performing.

He hasn’t said Blackman set the world on fire, but it does seem he’s confident in his ability to help Blackman become a much more productive and consistent quarterback than the past couple of years.

I’ve said all along, Blackman has talent,  but he needs competent coaching and a coaching staff that believes in him. The latter will ultimately give him the confidence he needs to play at a higher level.

Despite an offensive line that’s still a long way from being good, I expect Novell’s offense to be tailored to what he’s good at and getting rid of the ball a bit quicker.
