Will Stay After This Season

Keyshawn Helton- He is coming off of a significant injury. Helton had good spurts when he was on the field for the last couple of seasons, but he did not have enough starting tape due to injuries. Helton always seems to get a hot start, and then he is sidelined with injuries. It looks like he is the next man in the slot, especially if DJ Matthews has issues or opts-out. Helton will be a significant factor in the coming seasons.

Deonte Sheffield- I think he transfers. He hasn’t been able to earn a full-time scholarship and isn’t going to compete with Jashaun Corbin for touches, but he will get minutes. Sheffield has the talent, he wouldn’t be on the team if he didn’t, and it showed in flashes during the bowl last year. If he can go to a group of 5 like UCF or Memphis and earn significant reps to put out good film, he will get more attention draft wise.

DeCalon Brooks- He is a true junior, so he has this year and next to put it all together, but it looks like the staff thinks the incoming freshmen are poised to leapfrog some returners, and Brooks might be one of them. He played as a freshman but fell off last year.

Robert Cooper- He is a quality player and a FSU football fan favorite but is hidden behind Wilson. I think Cooper will pair nicely with Lovett in the second rotation until they start together next season. He has put in a lot of work this offseason and keeps shedding weight and getting into better shape. If he gets below 330lbs, he’ll be a problem, even more so than he has been.

Camren McDonald- This season is his only year of starting experience and getting meaningful snaps. He has gotten bigger and stronger to fill out at the tight end position, but he hasn’t sacrificed his speed. He will need to show capability then improve upon it to increase his draft stock for the coming seasons.

Ontaria Wilson- He would need to be incredible to go early, and thus far in camp, and it looks like he could lose the starting boundary position to Jordan Young, Warren Thompson, or the young Bryan Robinson and Kentron Portier. O. Wilson has the skill to be a factor in the offense, as demonstrated in his film, but it looks like the staff change can hold him back. He is good with his feet and extends plays after the catch, making a couple of people miss along the way. He could be a big part of the rotation, but the room runs deep, and he will need this year to stand out and prove why he started before his injury. Ontaria Wilson will have to keep on building off of his foundation to get that chance.

Jordan Wilson-He is a grad-transfer, so he only has this one year, but with his injury in mind, he will get an extra year if he wins his appeal with the NCAA. He would have been 1b behind Cam McDonald and added valuable starting experience to a young and shallow tight end room. He is a big body to help in the run game with passing upside. He has shown sneaky athleticism in practice. He always puts in a ton of work in the offseason, and we have already seen what Coach Storms have made of the players. God works this way for a reason, and I think his ability is maximized with this extra year to train in the system and he exceeds expectations. The best-case scenario for him, if he played this season, would be a 4th round pick, but now I can see him as a second-rounder with this extra year under his belt.

Brady Scott- When I googled him, he showed up as a two-sport athlete, playing offensive line for FSU and goalie for a German professional soccer club. All jokes aside, I think Scott stays. He is a guard who can also move out to tackle and started all 13 games last season. He is one of the players who are vital to the improvement of the o-line. He and a healthy Donte Lucas will automatically improve the floor in the room. He is lucky enough to have another year, so this isn’t a make or break year for him like it is for Boselli and Johnson.
