FSU football: Former Memphis player co-signs Mike Norvell
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football head coach Mike Norvell has dealt with a lot of adversity before coaching his first game. A former player says he’ll make FSU great again.
FSU football is a team in transition, and there will be bumps in the road. A storied program that’s been trending downward, a fan base that’s tired of losing, and a coach trying to tie it all together.
A new coach taking over a program isn’t an easy task, not to mention when you’re a coach that’s new to big-time football.
FSU isn’t Memphis or Arizona State. It’s one of the premier brands in all of college football. That’s not to say Mike Norvell has been bad since being hired. I’d argue he’s done a great job aside from the Marvin Wilson issue a few weeks back that he addressed. Although, I would like to see better recruiting in the trenches overall!
It’ll take time for him to put his fingerprints all over the program when players he didn’t recruit may not trust him yet.
I can’t blame some of the players as they have been through a lot, but there’s the right way to do things as well. Former Memphis player Kedarian Jones said a mouthful responding to a tweet from FSU wide receiver Warren Thompson that started a firestorm on social media Thursday morning:
Jones played wide receiver for Mike Norvell at Memphis and amassed 39 receptions for 609 yards and four touchdowns his senior year last season. I’ve said this program has been soft the past few years and calling someone “spoon-fed” is the same thing.
I don’t think someone is soft for using their platform for the right things, but the overwhelming majority of the players do not support what Thompson said, nor have them confirmed it.
I’m translating this as Jones is saying some players are looking for attention because they don’t like how things are different compared to the last couple of years?
