FSU basketball continues to recruit at an elite level. Leonard Hamilton has added a huge piece to his 2021 recruiting class.

Leonard Hamilton is hotter than fish grease on the recruiting trail. FSU basketball received some great news Wednesday afternoon with blue-chip center John Butler announcing his commitment to the Noles.

The Greenville, South Carolina, product is the second commitment within the last week in the 2021 recruiting cycle for Leonard Hamilton and staff.

He joins two blue-chip shooting guards in, Bryce McGowens and Matthew Cleveland, which boosts the FSU basketball national recruiting ranking to No. 2 with only three commits.

Butler announced the news via a ceremony at his school.

Butler is considered the No. 57 player nationally, the No. 12 center and the No. 2 player in the state of South Carolina. He’s a player the coaching staff identified early with an offer and got him on campus shortly after. He was offered in July 2019 and visited in September of that year.

Butler had 12 offers from the likes of FSU, Alabama, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Wake Forest, Baylor, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Depaul, and Saint Louis.

He checks in at 7’1″ and 190 pounds, runs the floor well and would provide immediate help as a rim protector and rebounder. Butler gives the Noles its second seven-footer in as many years, joining Quincy Ballard from the 2020 recruiting class.

The size of Butler is a great compliment to what McGowens and Cleveland bring to the recruiting class. He’s still relatively raw as a prospect, but the ‘Noles coaching staff have a great reputation in helping big men develop their games to become impact players.
