Depth

One of the first things both players help address is depth in the trenches and the secondary. The Noles have Marvin Wilson, Corey Durden, and Robert Cooper with proven experience at the position.

One of the biggest issues was those players playing entirely too many snaps last season at their size. Lovett provides proven depth, playing in all 13 games last season as a redshirt freshman.

The Noles can substitute him or pair him with any of the three players listed above and have a formidable tandem.

FSU’s secondary has a lot of talent with Asante Samuel Jr., Akeem Dent, Renardo Green, and a host of other players vying for playing time. The addition of Jarrian Jones added another former blue-chip recruit to the mix that will help with depth.

The Noles will likely play a lot of 4-2-5 defense in 2020, meaning they’ll have five defensive backs on the field at one time. Jones brings experience, playing in 11 games and excellent length at 6’1″ and 190 pounds. The latter can also be a factor on special teams, which is an important role with Mike Norvell teams.
