FSU football will welcome a new offense in 2020. Who are the top defenses they’ll go up against?

FSU football fans should be excited about how the offense will look under new head coach Mike Norvell and long time assistant Kenny Dillingham.

The two have had a lot of success at Memphis, where they have coached together for several years.

The key to their offensive success is not getting behind the chains while being one of the most explosive offenses in the nation every year.

Memphis finished with the No. 8 ranked offense last season according to SP+ advanced metrics. They finished with the No. 14, No. 17, and No. 43 in the previous seasons, so the offense got better every single season Mike Norvell was there.

To contrast that, FSU finished with the No. 49 ranked offense via the same metrics last season. The thing is, Mike Norvell’s been doing it with less talented players.

The biggest question mark is the FSU offensive line, but I’m expecting the synergy and coaching experience between Mike Norvell and Kenny Dillingham to be a difference-maker.

Does FSU have to face a murderer’s row of defenses in 2019? It’s an interesting list with some teams losing quite a bit from last year.

Let’s take a look at our top five defenses Mike Norvell will have to scheme for in 2020.
