FSU football QB commit Luke Altmyer was a late addition to the Elite 11 competition. However, he opened some eyes with his performance there.
FSU football QB commit Luke Altmyer has ascended the rankings since pledging his commitment to the Noles in early February.
He was a composite three-star at the time but is now considered a composite four-star and the No. 12 pro-style QB in the nation.
Altmyer wasn’t originally chosen as one of the Elite 11 participants but received an invitation at the last minute to show what he could do when one of the other invitees couldn’t attend.
He wasn’t the winner or one of the top performers, but he still impressed a number of people in attendance with his performance.
Twitter Reaction
Early reactions from the @Elite11:
— Parker Thune (@ParkerThune) June 30, 2020
- #Noles commit Luke Altmyer is turning heads with his footwork and tight, accurate ball
- #TarHeels commit Drake Maye can’t find a groove
- #Sooners target Caleb Williams is the most talented QB here and it’s not close
2) Luke Altmyer - The #Noles commit was my breakout candidate prior to the event, and he didn't disappoint. I was very impressed with Altmyer's footwork on tape, but he's not just a finesse passer. He showed a quick release and well above-average arm strength.

Thoughts
The evaluation of Luke Altmyer by Mike Norvell and Kenny Dillingham was excellent. He was a player they identified early, despite his lack of star ranking and offered because they trust what they were seeing.
That diligence has paid off as he has other offers from programs like Alabama, LSU, Louisville, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Ole Miss, Oregon, and others.
He doesn’t have the strongest arm, but still has time to continue physically maturing in high school before getting in a college strength and conditioning program.
He shows the ability to make quick decisions while being accurate with his throws which is a staple of being successful in Mike Norvell’s offense. The addition of Altmyer was critical for the 2021 recruiting class as the Noles have struggled to land quality quarterbacks over the past few years.
Altmyer isn’t the most vocal on social media but has been recruiting for the Noles there and in camp settings. He’ll be key in helping the coaching staff close this class with a strong senior season coupled with the Noles finding success on the gridiron this fall.
