FSU football continues to lay the groundwork for its 2022 recruiting class. One of the best defensive tackles in the nation is taking notice.

FSU football coaches are looking to add the best players possible to get the program back to where it’s supposed to be.

They have 13 commitments and have sent out over 290 scholarship offers for the 2021 recruiting cycle.

They’ve already sent out 190 offers for its 2022 class and establishing those relationships early is paying off.

2022 four-star defensive tackle Brandon Cleveland has the Noles in his top seven. He announced the list via his Twitter account Wednesday:

Cleveland hails from Tampa, Florida, and has 13 offers from the likes of FSU, Miami, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Penn State, South Carolina, NC State, Nebraska, Penn State, and a host of other schools.

He checks in at 6’3″ and 260 pounds and is considered the No. 158 ranked player nationally, No. 7 defensive tackle and the No. 22 player in the state of Florida by 247 Sports. He doesn’t have a composite ranking at this time or any crystal ball predictions.

Thoughts on his recruitment

Defensive tackle is a major need for the Noles moving forward with Marvin Wilson and Cory Durden gone after the 2020 season. Robert Cooper could be drafted with a good year as well and FSU hasn’t landed a top tier defensive tackle since Robert Cooper in 2018.

They failed to land a defensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting class with Manny Rogers failing to qualify and going the JUCO route.

Cleveland is one of the many 2022 players the FSU coaching staff was able to get on campus in February of this year. That’s a positive as they were one of the first coaching staff to offer him.

Impact of Manny Rogers Going To JUCO. dark. Next

The key will be getting him back on campus and showing improvement on defense in 2020 under Adam Fuller. The playing time will be there, and FSU has a great history of putting defensive tackles in the NFL.
