The FSU football offense will value the tight position much more than in previous years. It’s why the coaching staff is looking to stack up talent at the position.

FSU football has a depth and experience need at the tight end position going into the 2020 season. Tre McKitty opting for the transfer portal left junior Camren McDonald as the most experienced tight end on the roster, and he brings a career six receptions for 47 yards to the table.

Former quarterback Wyatt Rector has moved to tight end to try to find a way on the field faster, and true freshman Carter Boatwright was an early enrollee in January.

Three-star true freshman Markeston Douglas is extremely raw and will look to find a way to contribute at some point.

However, it’s not lost on the coaching staff regarding the need at the position. They found former UCLA tight end, Jordan Wilson, in the transfer portal, and has one year of eligibility left.

Jackson West is a three-star commit in the 2021 recruiting class, and the Noles just offered another JUCO product from California by the name of Koby Gross:

Gross checks in at 6’4″ and 235 pounds and is on pace to graduate in May 2021 which would put him arriving on campus around this time next summer if he were to commit to the Noles.

I believe the Noles plans to take another high school tight end in this class. So that could mean they’d take two high school players and a JUCO player if Gross comes on board.

That makes sense since they only have Jordan Wilson for one year, and attrition could claim another player. Heck, McDonald could have a breakout season catching the ball and declare for the NFL Draft.

I know the coaching staff wants to increase the talent and physicality at the position too. Gross has good size as does Jordan Wilson and Markeston Douglas.

It’s good to see a coaching staff anticipate needs and plan accordingly, not to mention not be afraid to go the JUCO route for more physically mature players who could contribute quicker.
