FSU football head coach Mike Norvell got a quick dose of what big-time football is like before even playing one game. He apologized for a mistake.

I covered what originally happened with Mike Norvell and his statement that have fueled the last 17 hours or so.

It was a crazy situation that looked as though it was going to go badly in a hurry. However, it looks as though the situation has been handled well in a decisive manner.

FSU defensive tackle Marvin Wilson has provided his thoughts of a plan moving forward after the team met with Mike Norvell Thursday morning.

Now, Mike Norvell has issued his statement on the matter via his Twitter account:

Thoughts

The original issue lies with Mike Norvell’s choice to use words that implied something that didn’t happen. He addressed that decision directly in the statement above. There was no deflection he clearly states it was a mistake and for that he has to be given credit.

However, more importantly, his decision to call a meeting ASAP and meet with the players and allow communication to take place is what is most impressive.

Not only did he and the staff hear from the players, they also worked out a plan of action in which Wilson described in the video he released earlier Thursday.

I don’t want to lay it on thick or give Norvell too much credit it. It was his mistake that caused the situation, but I don’t think the situation could have been handled any better once Wilson decided to go to social media with his thoughts on the original statement.

One of his favorite subjects is about how people handle adversity, and this was certainly adversity that could ultimately shape how much success Norvell will have with FSU football.

I’m glad he addressed the situation precisely, admitted the mistake, and listened to the players on his team on how he can support a common goal.

That’s leadership.
