FSU football needed help at the defensive end position going into the 2020 season. They got it with Baylor defensive end transfer Deonte Williams.

FSU football doesn’t have a lot of proven depth at the defensive end position going into 2020.

Janarius Robinson has been the most experienced and most productive player at the position going into his senior year.

Former five-star Joshua Kaindoh has battled injuries the majority of his career in Tallahassee but will be needed big-time going into his senior year.

There were some whispers he could seek to transfer, but has remained with the team and was working out as hard as ever prior to the coronavirus shutting things down.

Either way, the Noles still needed more experienced depth at the position, and they got it Wednesday when former Baylor defensive end Deonte Williams committed to the Noles.

His father played at Florida State years ago along with FSU defensive tackle coach Odell Haggins. FSU football fans understand the need at the position and seemed pumped Williams choose the Noles.

Williams was a three-star recruit out of high school and has grown into a defensive end after playing linebacker. He stands at 6’2″ 235 pounds, showing promise after being named the starter his sophomore season at Baylor

He appeared in 16 games  between the 2017-18 seasons, starting the first seven games of 2018 before missing the remainder of the season with a broken arm. Williams took a medical disqualification, which will allow him to be able to play immediately in 2020 and should have two years of eligibility left.

That’ll be important because the Noles will lose both Robinson and Kaindoh after the 2020 season and have no proven depth behind them.

The 2020 season will give Williams a chance to show what he can do, along with younger players like Dennis Briggs Jr. and Derrick McClendon.

That means the Noles will likely go into the 2021 season in a much better situation from a depth perspective.
