FSU football: 5 greatest Noles to never win Heisman Trophy
By Kelvin Hunt
Peter Warrick
The word electrifying comes to mind when I hear the name, Peter Warrick. He’s arguably the most electrifying college football player of my lifetime.
He’s a three-time All-ACC performer and two-time consensus All-American that helped lead the Noles to their second national championship in 1999.
Warrick’s No. 3 on FSU’s all-time receptions and all-time yards receiving list. He’s the all-time leader in receiving touchdowns.
Not only was he one of the top wide receivers in the nation, but he was also one of the top punt returners. Warrick finished his FSU career with 72 punt returns for 937 yards and two returns for a touchdown.
He finished sixth in the 1999 Heisman Trophy voting after being the odds on favorite to win before an off the field incident derailed it all during the season.
Warrick came back to garner Sugar Bowl MVP honors in the BCS national title game against Virginia Tech. He was selected No. 4 overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2000 NFL Draft. His NFL career was largely hampered by injuries, but he’s one of 11 FSU players with their jersey honored.
