FSU basketball is losing one of its top players in Devin Vassell. FSU fans react to him declaring for the NBA Draft and his heartfelt message.

FSU basketball shooting guard Devin Vassell came to the Noles as part of the 2018 recruiting class.

A composite three-star recruit, Vassell was ranked as the No. 200 player overall and No. 46 ranked shooting guard and No. 10 ranked player in Georgia.

Ironically, he was the only player Leonard Hamilton signed in 2018 after signing shooting guards M.J. Walker and Anthony Polite in the previous class.

Both players were ranked higher than Vassell coming out of high school, but it was Vassell who ultimately became the team’s leading scorer in 2019.

Fan Reaction

Vassell saw incredible improvements in almost every statistical category. He went from playing 10.7 minutes as a freshman to 28.8 minutes as a sophomore.

His scoring average increased from 4.5 ppg to 12.7 ppg, and his field goal percentage improved from 43 percent to 49 percent. Vassell shot 41 percent from three-point land and improved his free-throw shooting from 67.9 percent to 73.8 percent in his two years in Tallahassee.

Final Thoughts

There’s no question Devin Vassell is an NBA talent as that was mentioned in almost every FSU basketball game broadcast on national television by announcers. It looks like he’s slated to be selected somewhere in mid to late first round.

Vassell is athletic with good length, shoots the three-ball well, and has a solid mid-range game off the dribble. He’s also good off the ball, willing to work off screens to get open shots, and can make teams pay at the free-throw line.

He can be effective defensively too. Vassell averaged 1.4 steals and one block per game this season.
