FSU basketball had one of its best seasons in history and won’t get a chance to prove how good they were. ESPN’s Dick Vitale says they would have won it all.

No. 4 FSU basketball (26-5, 16-4) were ACC regular-season champions for the first time this season. They had one of the deepest teams in the nation, with multiple players capable of doing damage on the offensive end.

Defensively, they were not as good as in years past, but when they put it all together, there wasn’t a better team in the country.

Unfortunately, we’ll never get to see what would have happened had the Noles completed the ACC Tournament and garnered the No. 1 or No. 2 seed.

However, it does matter according to ESPN’s Dick Vitale. He believed the Noles would have won the National Title had the NCAA Tournament not been canceled.

FSU averaged 75.4 ppg, which was good for No. 65 in the nation and held teams to 40 percent shooting overall. They were No. 12 in blocked shots, No. 48 in free throw shooting percentage, No. 12 in steals, No. 83 in three-point percentage and No. 70 in scoring defense allowing 65 ppg.

They had 10 players averaging over 10 minutes per game and were ranked highly in all of the basketball power index metrics.

As we know, it’s all about the matchups and seeding when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. We don’t know who the Noles would have been matched up with. Their only weakness was facing teams with great dribble penetration, and even then, they would win those games or be in a position to win.

It’s the way the team was built as they showed championship mentality several times this season. It’s funny to think of FSU basketball as some powerhouse, and we have no way of knowing if Dick Vitale would be correct in his prediction.
