FSU basketball: 4 takeaways from Noles 2019-20 season

Hamilton is finally getting credit
Leonard Hamilton has often been overshadowed since he began coaching at FSU in 2002. The ACC is a conference that’s thought to arguably be the best basketball conference of all time.
Not only that, but there are a few Hall of Fame coaches in the ACC as well. Mike Krzyzewski. Roy Williams and Jim Boeheim are all among the longest-tenured and among the most winning coaches of all time.
Despite that, Leonard Hamilton has accelerated his pace up the ACC all-time wins list. The most amazing thing is Hamilton changed his philosophy and his team’s style of play over the years.
That has resulted in more wins and made the program attractive to more elite talent. There’s no coincidence FSU basketball has had more first-round draft picks in recent years due to the success and change in the style of play.
Hamilton’s teams have improved drastically, using defense to create offensive opportunities. They’ve also improved their free-throw shooting a great deal over the past couple of years.
When it comes to one-possession games, FSU basketball has shown a knack to be able to win those games more times than not as of late too.
FSU is no longer known as just a football school, and opposing coaches know when they see FSU on the schedule nowadays it’s going to be a battle for 40 minutes.
