Offensive Tackle

One of the biggest needs over the past few years continues to be among the largest going into 2021.

The prior coaching staff (Fisher and Taggart) seemed to overlook the need at offensive tackle and only signed two during the 2018 recruiting cycle.

Christian Armstrong is no longer on the team and Jalen Goss hasn’t been able to gain enough weight to play in a game. Willie Taggart and staff did sign three in the 2019 recruiting cycle.

Darius Washington looks like he might be a player with further development. Ira Henry needs to continue to develop and probably is a year away and JUCO product Jay Williams doesn’t look like he’ll be a contributor at this point.

Mike Norvell and staff were able to bring in a one year band-aid in graduate transfer Devontay Taylor. They also flipped Robert Scott from Ole Miss and Lloyd Willis. Scott probably needs a year or so before he can be a real contributor and Willis, while physically gifted, is extremely raw.

The coaching staff needs to continue to take numbers offensive tackle since Taylor’s only available for one season.

At some point, they need to land some difference-makers at offensive tackle who can play early the way Dontae Lucas was at offensive guard this past season.
