No. 9 FSU basketball didn’t make it easy on themselves but forced overtime to get past arch rival Miami for their ninth straight win.

FSU basketball (16-2, 6-1 ACC) went on the road and played some sloppy basketball against the Miami Hurricanes (10-7, 2-5 ACC).

However, in the end they did enough to pull out a win in overtime for their ninth consecutive game.

The Noles were down by nine points with 4:46 left in regulation and Miami’s win expectancy rate got as high as 90 percent. A FSU 11-4 run helped push the game to overtime behind two big three’s from M.J. Walker who missed most of the first half with two early fouls.

It was knotted up 69-69 as overtime began and the Noles outscored Miami 14-10 to ultimately win the game 83-79. Devin Vassell led the Noles with 23 points and 11 rebounds with M.J. Walker chipping in 19 points respectively.

It’s a game the Noles should have easily won but they made a ton of terrible decisions. They had way too many careless turnovers, poor shot selection and were getting crushed on the offensive boards most of the game.

The Noles defensively didn’t play that well although they did force 24 turnovers, but allowed Miami to shoot 46 percent from the floor and 11 of 24 from beyond the arc.

It’s the second straight game they’ve allowed a team to shoot better than 45 percent overall. Miami’s struggles at the free throw line were huge too as they only went 10 of 17 from the charity strip.

In contrast, FSU basketball made 15 of 18 and Devin Vassell, Trent Forrest and Malik Osborne made five huge free throws in overtime.

It’s ironic FSU won the game four points for their fourth straight win over the Hurricanes. The Noles will be tied at the top of the ACC with the winner of the Duke/Louisville game that takes place Saturday night.
