FSU football still has some holes to fill in its 2020 recruiting class while also working to close the gap on the 2021 class.

One of the most impressive things about the new FSU football staff is their relentlessness on the recruiting trail.

If a player at a position of need hits the transfer portal FSU coaches are contacting them within an hour of the news. That’s the thing to remember, they are going after positions of need first and foremost.

Tre McKitty announced he was heading to the transfer portal and an offer was going out to a respective tight end recruit to fill that need.

Heck, the coaching staff even found an offensive lineman in California and offered him a preferred walk-on spot. They got an experienced and productive linebacker from Purdue to walk-on this spring in Cornel Jones.

The firing of Willie Taggart made it difficult for this new staff to concentrate on 2021 kids just as it was with the 2019 class when Willie Taggart first took over.

However, it looks as though FSU is snow storming the 2021 recruiting class with offers and trying to close the gap as other schools have been working on 2021 a bit longer since they already had their 2020 classes wrapped up.

FSU has already sent out 156 offers for 2021.

The key to having real success in that 2021 class is production on the field. If you’ll recall, FSU moved to having the No. 1 2019 recruiting class in April 2018 when Sam Howell and Dontae Lucas committed during the spring game weekend.

If they wouldn’t have looked like a train wreck on the field that season it’s quite possible FSU would have finished with a top five class despite being behind on the 2019 recruiting cycle in the beginning in that recruiting cycle.

Right now it’s about establishing contact and showing interest to 2021 players and if there’s some real progression on the field in 2020? It’s quite possible the Noles will be able to pull some of those talented players just as Jimbo Fisher did when he took over in 2010.
