FSU football will reportedly receive a linebacker named Cornel Jones who’ll transfer from Purdue. What does he bring to the Noles?

I mentioned FSU football would be looking to tackle the transfer portal with the 2020 recruiting class. They have wasted no time in adding a player from it Tuesday morning.

Noles247 is reporting Purdue linebacker Cornel Jones will be transferring to Tallahassee and enrolling this spring semester.

Jones has played three years at Purdue and has one year remaining and will be a non-scholarship player as a walk-on.

Jones is a former two-star recruit from Miami, Florida, who had his best season at Purdue as a sophomore.

He totaled 69 tackles as a sophomore and 12.5 tackles for loss with 3.5 sacks before only appearing in six games due to injury as a junior.

What Does He Bring TO FSU?

Thoughts

Well, if he fits that mold of a dog I want a whole lot of Cornel Jones on my team. He’s a huge linebacker at 6’2″ 235 pounds who obviously excels at playing downhill when healthy as evident of the number of tackles for loss his sophomore season.

FSU brought in some young talent in the last recruiting cycle but they were not able to get a ton of experience last season. It would be great to have an experienced player like Jones to add depth and playmaker ability for one season.

It’s unclear if he’ll be eligible immediately since he did play more than four games last season and didn’t redshirt. Either way, it seems like a solid addition without having to use a scholarship.
