Defense Impacted By Injuries

It wasn’t a popular opinion after the 2018 season regarding the defense being impacted by how poor the offense was that year.

The FSU defense wasn’t elite by any means, but I do believe they were on the field entirely too much because the offense turned it over 26 times.

The 2019 defense was impacted by Harlon Barnett trying to run a scheme he wasn’t familiar with.

Once we saw them play more of his customary 4-3, the defense at least looked respectable compared to the abomination we saw against Louisiana-Monroe.

One thing people fail to realize is the FSU defense suffered some major injuries in 2019. Starters Joshua Kaindoh and Jaiden Lars-Woodbey only played in three and four games respectively.

Marvin Wilson missed four games and Hamsah Nasirildeen missed the equivalent of three games due to injury.

That’s four starters who missed a significant amount of snaps on the season. The fact almost every starter will return on defense in 2020 should give Nole fans lots of optimism about this unit moving forward.
